BEER IS ART AND WE ARE THE CURATORS
Beer shop + York's smallest craft beer tasting room
We are a modern taproom and a beer shop for takeaway. Hop O'Clock is a project of Jimmy from Leicester, UK and Julia from Oulu, Finland and we are passionate about discovering new breweries, bringing beer lovers of all levels together and creating a community around beer. Our background is in tourism/backpacker hostels and we intend to bring the same atmosphere into our place and hope you can feel home-like here and find new friends, no matter where you come from.
"I was lucky enough to stop in to Hop O’Clock during my visit to York. Jimmy and Julia are so incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. I found myself stopping in almost every night I was in York. The beer selection is good, the environment is even better. If you’re a beer enthusiast, this is a must see in York. Stopping in here made my entire visit to York much better than it would have been otherwise."

We started our journey together after meeting in Amsterdam and since then we have been slowly meandering around Europe exploring, living in cities such as Athens and Bruges. We decided it was time for our next adventure so we headed for Jimmy's homeland England. We discovered the wonderful craft beer scene emerging in the UK and had our light bulb moment!
Picking the perfect destination was the easy part. We loved York at first sight and without much thinking we decided to settle here! We are very lucky to have found a perfect property in the heart of York and now continue our passion for beer and share it with others too.
Most of the time you can find our assistant and o-purrr-rations manager, our cat Max in the shop.
BEER PERSONALITIES:
Jimmy: "I'm a sucker for an IPA! I enjoy big bitter West Coast styles. I am also a fan of session pale ales and sours. One of my absolute favourite beers is Jack's Precious IPA from Brouwerij Musketeers in Belgium. I really like Missing Link, Brew York and CoolHead from Helsinki, Finland (king of the sours!)."
Julia: "Like other things in life, I tend to go for the extremes. I'm a lover of really thick, sweet dessert stouts and those sour beers that make your face melt. I do also love hazy double IPAs and Belgian tripels. Some of my favorite beer makers are currently Phantom Brewery, Dig Brew, Merakai and Brussels Beer Project!"
